BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN SAFELY EVACUATED IN TIME IF THERE HAD BEEN AN EARLY WARNING. 2.DAMMING OF THE RIVER WILL LEAD TO HEAVY RAIN SEASON TYPE CONDITIONS. THIS IS BECAUSE INDIA IS BUILDING ONE SIDE DAM AFTER ANOTHER ON THE INTER-BORDER RIVERS FLOWING THROUGH BANGLADESH.ON THE ONE HAND, BANGLADESH IS DEPRIVED OF WATER DURING THE DRY SEASON, THE WATER HOLDING CAPACITY OF THE RIVERS OF BANGLADESH HAS DECREASED DUE TO THE ACCUMULATION OF SILT, ON THE OTHER HAND, BANGLADESH IS SUFFERING FROM FLASH FLOODS DUE TO THE OPENING OF THE DAMS WITHOUT INFORMING BANGLADESH DURING THE MONSOON SEASON. 3.Many people think that the problem can be solved by a barrier inside Bangladesh as opposed to a barrier in India. This is a misconception. Just as India has opened its floodgates to deal with floods caused by heavy rains, Bangladesh must do the same. eg. Muhuri project dam to Feni area Couldn't protect it from the water coming down from India. Bangladesh has also been forced to open 40 gates of the Muhuri project dam.So, building more dams on the river is not the solution. To solve it, all kinds of dams have to be removed from the river. Until the political reality of removing dams is created, India should be forced to stop unilateral withdrawal of water from trans-boundary rivers or sudden release of water without notice.
